2023: Oh, the Places You’ll Go
From Iceland to Belize, Los Angeles to Key West, it was a whirlwind year. My 2023 goal was 30,000 miles and by my count I hit 33,000, and that’s a conservative estimate.
It all began in Iceland in January, followed by a Caribbean cruise in February. New York City with Darling Daughter (DD) happened in May, as well as time on Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail. June was ChristmasCon in Kansas City
The fall brought a winding trip through the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Utah. For my early December birthday I ventured to Miami’s South Beach and down to our country’s southernmost point in Key West.
Then there were the trips to Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Hot Springs, Door County and many others in between.
It was all wrapped up with a neat and tidy bow on a belated Christmas trip to Orange County where DD and I had the opportunity to decorate one of those big, beautiful, Rose Parade floats.
I am woefully behind updating this blog. Not surprisingly, it’s tough to keep up when you’re on the road so much.
For those of you interested in following my travels I’d encourage you to check out my Instagram page. I’ll work to add more posts here but, frankly, I do a far better job on Insta.
I have put together a pair of videos that, quite quickly, recap some of the spaces and places I visited this past year. The first of a more general nature:
The second specific to the distilleries, breweries and bars encountered along the way. Believe me, it was difficult to even narrow this one down to what you see in the video!
2024: Now What?
Full disclosure, I’m quite perplexed and befuddled about the year ahead.
You see, it’s been 30 months now since I retired. In those 30 months I pretty much checked off all the remaining places I really wanted to see.
Now what? I just don’t know.
I have only one, what I would consider big, trip currently scheduled. That’s coming up soon and after that all the calendar shows are small trips, only a couple days in length and 400 miles or less from home.
I am playing with turning one of those trips into a longer one. That would be in April, and then what?
It’s an extremely strange feeling for me not to have three or four big trips already on the horizon.
I really don’t expect to top that 30,000 mile mark this year.
I’m ok with that.
After being gone so much the last couple of years, there are some things I need to be taking care of around the home front.
But, you know I won’t be sitting home for long. There’s always a new adventure waiting just over the horizon. Just waiting to be found.
